WONDERS OF THE SEA

PLAYING CARDS | ILLUSTRATION

Wonders of the Sea began as a simple idea: turn a familiar game into something immersive, educational, and visually refined.

This “Go Fish” deck features 13 uniquely illustrated marine creatures, each inspired by vintage scientific artwork and designed to feel both timeless and intentional. The goal was to create more than a game. It became an experience that invites curiosity while maintaining a sense of elegance.

Every detail was carefully considered. A limited, sophisticated color palette and intricate line work bring a sense of cohesion, while a structured layout keeps the cards clear and easy to use during play. The balance between beauty and function was central from the start.

Each card introduces a different species, pairing scientific naming with detailed illustration to elevate both learning and visual appeal. The alternating light and dark system adds rhythm and contrast, creating a deck that feels organized, dynamic, and engaging in hand.

This project reflects my approach to design as both craft and communication. It shows how thoughtful details can transform something familiar into something memorable.
